Our Story

Silica’s story is about how we’ve adapted over the past 18 years, learning from challenges and improving while always staying true to our original goals: building trusted partnerships, and to never stop innovating. We started in the late 1990s, building a custom software solution to administer local and international unit trust business.

In 2004, we expanded our offering to include outsourced administrative capabilities, using our technology as the backbone. We continued looking to innovate, asking: how can we do things more efficiently? The answer was our integration capability and Graphite, our recently launched solution that allows financial advisers to manage their customers wealth digitally.

Throughout our journey, we’ve never stopped improving, and in doing so we’ve returned to our roots as an IT business, where our specialist expertise lies. This, together with our track record in delivering world class solutions for our clients, is what will keep us relevant and competitive in a continually changing market.

Founder and Director Gravity Ideas

Sebastian Thompson

Sebastian Thompson is deeply curious in understanding how people think, make decisions and end up doing what they do, even when these decisions are not really in their best interest. Have you ever wondered why you could never just have one drink with your friends or why the money in your savings account never seems to stay there for very long? These are some of the questions that interest Sebastian.

It is this curiosity and belief that anything is possible that led Sebastian to co-found Gravity Ideas. Gravity is a Behavioural Design Consultancy that optimises and designs services, communications, programmes or products using the insights and learnings of behavioural science. With his background in economics, international relations and communication, he continues to help many financial service providers gain a better understanding of their clientele and improve the way they communicate with them.

Over the weekend, however, it is unlikely that you will find Sebastian behind a desk or even indoors. He regularly trades his laptop for a pair of trail shoes, a mountain bike, a surfboard, a fly-fishing rod or a sailing boat. For Sebastian, just about any good excuse to get outside will do.
